Today we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Shan Women’s Action Network which was established to work for gender equality and justice for all, alongside the movement for social and political change in our homeland. Prior to our 20th anniversary, SWAN held its Shan Women’s Get Together on March 25-26, 2019. More than 130 women from all over the country and Thailand participated in our event, where we reviewed and discussed our vision, mission and program activities. In addition, we discussed the escalating armed conflicts in Shan State that have produced increasing numbers of internally displaced people; the stagnant peace process, and the political, economic and social situation that is directly affecting the security and quality of life of women and children.
