Nang Pan Ei Pyu

My name is Nang Pan Ei Pyu. I am a lawyer and one of the Central Executive Committee members of the Tai Youth Network (TYN).

Everyone has their own dreams, but for refugees and IDPs who are women and girls, they have to work harder to achieve their goals and missions. They spend time worrying about their livelihoods because they are living in a conflict area. Many refugees/IDPs have lost their jobs as farmers and business owners and are now forced to find work that is unfamiliar to them for unfair wages. Their lives are constantly at risk and this means they have to worry. Their education opportunities are also limited – they have less of a chance of passing grade 11 at the Government level. The Government should work for developmental change for the people, especially in conflict areas. 

Security and community safety needs must be met to ensure a strong future for young women and girls who have been forcibly displaced by conflict. Young girls have their own dreams, goals and hopes for the future. The Government has a responsibility to not only develop the urban areas, but rural conflict areas as well. They should fund infrastructure that would benefit our communities.
