Membership

Objectives

• To strengthen the connection between SWAN and members to exchange information about current issues
• To build the Shan women's movement against gender discrimination & sexual & gender- based violence
• To encourage our members to participate in decision-making processes at community, state and national levels
• To enable Shan women to control over their own lives

Criteria for SWAN members

• Consider and accept oneself as a Shan woman
• Independent with no influence from any individuals or organizations
• Keen on working for the interest of women
• Interest in human rights and empowerment of women and women’s rights work
• Commitment to the principles of the organization and human rights principles
• Willing to commit time to fulfill the required criteria

Becoming a SWAN member

• At least 16 years commitment to the policy, position and belief of the organization as well as interest in supporting and assisting the activities of the organization
• No discrimination on the basis of race, religious, languages, ages, believes, gender, marital status etc.
• Have strong ethics

Procedure to become a SWAN member

• Submit the membership application form
• Include 2 recent photos (1x1 inch)

Responsibilities of a SWAN member

• Join SWAN activities (e.g. fundraising, mobilizing, organizing)
• Share information regarding the communities staff members are working in

Rights of a SWAN member

• Able to join SWAN meetings and trainings if invited
• Able to apply for job openings and internships at SWAN
• Will receive the updated information about SWAN’s activities

Termination

• Violate the organization’s principles, code of conduct and policies.
• Tarnish the image and dignity of organization.
• Commit any crimes
• Misuse the name of organization
• Out of contact
