Shan Spotlight – Nang Hseng Lao

My name is Nang Hseng Lao. Currently, I am a leader of Tai Youth Network (Hsenwi).
For the free and fair election, which is the most important part of democracy and for unbiased and accurate results, we need more election monitors. As we had experienced unfair results in the last election, we have to prepare to monitor the election closely to get the most accurate election results.

I want to wait until when everything is decided to confirm my candidacy. If I were to compete in this upcoming election, in addition to what I have learned in the past, I will have to make a strong preparation to be proficient in laws and political strategies.

In 2015, I attended many training programs about democracy and the election process. Since then, I have shared this knowledge with the community. However, in the 2015 general election, myself as a youth who is interested in politics, only got a chance to monitor the election from outside the voting station. This is because legally I cannot watch the election inside the polling station.

In a democratic system, the power comes from the people. That’s why to have the power go to the right representative that people want to give the power to, and to have unbiased and accurate election results, the people, including youth should participate in the election monitoring team.
